Collings, A. G., Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV23958.

Original traction was provided on the atmospheric principle, with pumping houses every few miles along the route. Many difficulties were experienced and it was abandoned in 1848, widely regarded as brunel's most spectacular failure (collings).
