Summary

The devon and cornwall railway. This, the first section, was opened 1/11/1865 to north tawton. North tawton to okehampton road was opened 8/1/1867 and the last three miles to okehampton on 3/10/1871. The extension to lydford was opened 12/10/1874. Treated as a subsidiary of the lswr from 1866 and absorbed in 1872. The line was doubled by the end of 1879 when the line to holsworthy was opened.(thomas).
