Name:Small enclosure with huts Legistor Warren, Sheepstor

Summary

A small ruinous oval enclosure associated with an extensive hut settlement on the south slopes of Legis Tor. It has internal dimensions of 8.9m by 5.5m. It has tumbled stone walls spread up to 1.6m wide by 0.6m high. Fragmented evidence of a very small shelter is built into the eastern corner (2022). There was no identifiable entrance noted in 2005 survey. Gerrard (1993) records two small huts attached to the enclosure.

(12/02/1979) SX 5717 6527 On the south slopes of Legis Tor is a sub-circular enclosure 7.5m internal diameter with a hut attached to its north-east side. The walling is 1.5m wide and 0.5m high and of rubble construction. The entrance is to the south-west and the general condition is poor.
The attached hut is 2.0m in diameter internally with walling 1.0m thick and 0.4m high. It has a south-east entrance, a levelled interior and is in poor condition. The hut 15.0m to the north (MDV50654) is also very ruined. Its internal diameter is 5.0m, the walling being 0.6m thick and 0.4m high. No entrance is visible. Only the enclosure is visible on the air photograph (OS/219/369 75). Discovered during field investigation. Surveyed at 1:10 00 on P.F.D.

Remains of the south-east circuit of enclosure, with two hut circles attached, one each at the termination of walling visible on the aerial photographs. Detached hut circle to the south-east at SX 5713 6526.

(22/02/1993) Small oval enclosure and stone hut circles forming part of an extensive Prehistoric settlement is situated on the south facing slope of Legis Tor overlooking the valley of the River Plym.
The enclosure measures internally 8.2m long by 6.45m wide and is defined by a coursed rubble wall 1.6m wide and up to 0.6m high.
Attached to the outer face of the eastern wall is a stone hut circle of the simple plan and coursed walling type. The interior of this building measures 2.1m in diameter and is defined by a 0.9m wide and 0.4m high wall. The doorway faces east.
The second stone hut circle is attached to the western outer face of the enclosure, and is of the simple plan and rubble bank walling type. The interior of this structure measures 2.9m in diameter and the surrounding wall measures 0.9m wide and stands up to 0.3m high. A length of boundary wall situated 15m east of the enclosure may have once been linked to this structure.

The low banked oval enclosure '12' of 9.7 metres by 7.0 metres between Settlements 'A' and 'B' at Legis Tor is likely to have been an unroofed pen.

(07/02/2005) Centred SX 5715 6528. Three hut circles and an enclosure on the southern flank of Legis Tor above the right bank of the River Plym (see related records).
The sub-circular enclosure, at SX 5717 6527 is small measuring 7.0m north-west to south-east by 10m. It is enclosed by a rubble wall 1.5m wide and 0.7m high. There is no identifiable entrance.
