Name:Cairn D north of Deadman's Bottom in the Langcombe Valley

Summary

One of four cairns lying north-east of the Langcombe Brook. Round cairn measuring 4.5 metres in diameter, 0.2 metres high. Kerb and cist. Robbed. A 4.5 metre diameter area of small hummocks defined by a rough ring of large stones. In centre is a 0.8 metre by 0.6 metres by 0.25 metre deep hollow lined on three sides with stones. A 1 metre long, 0.7 metre wide and 0.2 metre deep pit lies on the south-east side.

Full description

Turner, J. R., 1983, Embanked stone circle and cairn near Deadman's Bottom, Langcombe Brook (Worksheet). SDV177854.

(30/7/1983) SX 6067 6695. A cairn measuring 3.5m diameter and 0.3m high. The centre of the cairn has been dug in to and deposited on its west side.

(09/05/1996) One of four cairns lying north-east of the Langcombe Brook.
SX 6065 6691 Round cairn measuring 4.5 metres in diameter, 0.2 metres high. Kerb and cist. Robbed. A 4.5 metre diameter area of small hummocks defined by a rough ring of large stones. In centre is a 0.8 metre by 0.6 metres by 0.25 metre deep hollow lined on three sides with stones. A 1 metre long, 0.7 metre wide and 0.2 metre deep pit lies on the south-east side.
[NB: Gerrard's grid references for these four cairns are slightly problematic and do not pair well with his plan depiction of the features. This feature has been placed as accurately as possible from a combination of the aerial image, Gerrard's grid reference and plan, but requires ground truthing for confirmation. Richards, A.
