Full description

Department of Environment, 1973, Ashburton, 24 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV300597.

No 18, North Street. 18th century, stucco, three storey, flush frame sash windows, at 1st and 2nd floors (2 windows and 1 3-light window). Cove eaves cornice. Slate roof. 19th century shop fronts with wood case and fluted flank pilasters. Passage way through right.

House with shop. Probably early C18, remodelled early C19. Rendered front (probably timber-framed), lined to imitate masonry. Slated roof, hipped to left. Rendered chimney on each gable wall. 3 storeys. 3 windows wide. Two late C19 or early C20 shop fronts with large display windows flanked by slender shafts.
To right, entrance to alley leading up to Stapledon Lane. The 2 right-hand windows in each storey have 6-paned sashes in flush frames. Left-hand windows have triple sashes: 2-paned centre sashes in second storey, 6-paned ones in third storey, the outer sashes here being 2-paned. Coved eaves-cornice, probably early C18.
