Full description

Department of Environment, 1972, Urban District of Crediton, 9-10 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV39769.

No 3, high Street. Probably 18th century, altered. Two storey three windows, stucco lined and painted. Ogee bracket cornice, parapet. Large sash windows to first floor with glazing bars. Six-panel door with panelled reveals and wood doorcase with pilasters, sash window left with glazing bars. Inserted shop front, 19th century, wood, with central double doors.

2 shops with accommodation over. Late C18, possibly refronting an earlier structure, late C20 alterations. Front elevation probably brick, stuccoed and blocked out; left return roughcast; slate roof;stacks with handmade brick shafts. Plan: single depth block with a rear left wing. Exterior: 2 storeys; Asymmetrical 3-bay front. Parapet with small moulded brackets above a cornice. 2 C20 shop windows with adjacent doors in the centre; three 9/6-pane horned sashes on the first floor. Interior: Ground floor gutted for shops; features of interest may survive in the rear wing and first floor. Included for group value.
