Full description

Department of Environment, 1972, Urban District of Crediton, 13 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV39769.

No 21, High Street. Eighteenth altered, brick, painted, three storey, two windows, flush frame with glazing bars and segmental heads. Added coupled brackets to eaves cornice, steep slate roof.

Shop with accommodation over. Probably mid/late C18; late C20 shop front. Painted Flemish bond brick; asbestos slate roof ; right end stack with brick shaft. Plan: Double depth with passageway to right. Exterior: 3 storeys. Asymmetrical 2 window front with regular fenestration. Deep eaves with tall paired, eaves brackets. Moulded lintel to passageway to the right. C20 timber shop front with shop door to left of centre: doors and windows with small panes. 2 first floor C18 12-pane sashes with segmental arched heads and flush frames; 2 similar 6-pane second floor sashes. Some old glass to the windows. Interior: Ground floor gutted for shop use. Features of interest may survive on the upper floors.
