HER Number:MDV2348
Name:Railway siding; part of Plymouth and Dartmoor railway

Summary

Location needs checking! Plymouth and dartmoor railway, 1823. A feature of this railway was the siding at the north extreme of roborough down. Granite stones were used instead of iron rails. Their inner surfaces were raised above the surface of the stone, and upon these edges ran the wheels of the trucks. In 1940 an aerodrome was constructed on adjacent land. A traffic roundabout is now on part of the siding. The roadmakers used the siding stones to form a kerb around the inner circle of the roundabout.
