House. Probably early 19th century, with a possible earlier core, since house occupies a medieval plot. Mixed construction; roughcast stone rubble with plastered timber-framed front; end stacks with one rendered and one exposed brick chimneyshaft, both with old pots; slate roof. Plan: 2 rooms wide, one room deep, with central passage to rear stairs. Exterior: 3 storeys with cellar; 2-window first-floor range. Irregular front. Ground floor has timber pilasters flanking central round-headed doorway with 20th century part-glazed door under original fanlight with radial glazing bars. A plain 20th century window each side. Timber band at first-floor level and wall above is straight and oversails the ground-floor recess. First floor has 19th century horned 4-pane sash to left and only other front window is a tiny casement to second-floor centre. Right end wall includes 2 more horned 4-pane sashes. Timber eaves cornice with modillion frieze. Roof is gable-ended. Interior: Includes some plain 19th century detail including a stick-baluster stair. This house forms part of a fine group of listed buildings in Higher Street which was, in the medieval period, the main trading street in Dartmouth.
