Full description

Department of Environment, 1973, Great Torrington, 3 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV2214.

Probably 16th or early 17th century with alterations and additions. Stone and cob walls, plastered. Two storey, five windows, modern casements. Massive projecting end chimney. First floor ceiling conceals earlier higher hewn roof trusses with curved collars, 20 inch floor boards. Square baluster stair with column newels. Part of ground floor 18th century dado fielded panelling. Two-panel doors, and wide-boarded doors with wrought hinges on lugs. Circa 1830 enriched marble mantel. The earlier work forms a long rectangle with small wing at right angles, east. Added early 19th century porch with elongated cast iron columns.
