Full description

Department of Environment, 1973, Great Torrington, 25 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV2214.

Eighteenth or early 19th century, altered, 2 storey, rendered and colourwashed. Three sash windows at first floor with centre glazing bars only. Six-panel door with sunk upper panels and unusual wood case. Numbers 6-10 (even) New Street and Palmer House form a group. Other details: LBS 90498.

Two storey rendered and colourwashed house, adjoining Palmer House, is believed to date from the 18th or early 19th century. Other details: Figure 2, site 10.


Leverett, M., 2007, Archaeological Evaluation of Land to the Rear of Palmer House and Nos 10 and 12 New Street, Great Torrington, 3, 5 (Report - Evaluation). SDV339055.

Trench 4, to the rear of 10 and 12 New Street, exposed a medieval ditch which may have served as a burgage plot division. This was replaced by a stone culvert, and subsequently, by a stone wall. Other details: Figures 2 & 4, Plate 3.
