Thatched cottage including garden features, hillsborough road. Early c19 1 storey and attic. Thatched roof with semi-circular dormers. Eaves supported on rustic posts forming verandah. In garden is a stone pier which originally housed a pump, sides have recessed pointed panels. Also in garden is a small thatched shed with an early c19 round-headed leaded window. The cottage may have been a lodge to laston house. It has also been suggested that it may have been a toll-house (doe).

Detached cottage ornee, now a public house, out-building and well head. Early C19. L-shaped plan. Rendered with large thatched, hipped roof having lunette dormers, the low eaves supported on rough tree-trunks and forming a verandah. Part glazed timber C20 central entrance doors flanked by simple casement windows. Slated lean-to in angle at rear. INTERIOR altered. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: to right a small thatched shed with an early C19 round-headed leaded window. In front of this, a stone pier, each side with recessed pointed panel, originally housing a pump. This Repton style cottage ornee may have been a lodge to Laston House, New Barnstaple Road, (qv). Laston House and the Olde Thatched Inn form a group.
