Full description

Department of Environment, 1972, Kingsbridge, 17 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV141018.

Nos 46b and 48b, also outbuilding, Fore Street, at rear of nos 46 and 48. Probably 16th century or earlier, may be the building recently found to contain 14th century cruck, and connected with the monks of Buckfast Abbey. Stone roughly coursed, rectangular with short crosswing with gable north-west, moderate pitch with putlogholes, and casement window, remainder of west face includes casements with glazing bars irregularly placed at ground and first floor, archway with chamfer, two-panel door and massive chimney. Outbuilding, parallel, west, probably 17th century or earlier, rectangle on plan, narrow coursed stone, two storey, slate roof hipped on new roof trusses. East face includes three two-light wood mullioned barred openings under eaves and three windows casements of various types, at ground floor with wide doorway with hewn wood triple lintol. Now used as stores and workshop.
