Full description

Nos 26 to 29, St. Andrew's Street. Late 18th or early 19th century red brick, nos 28 and 29 rendered, no 29, painted. Good contemporary doorcases with fanlights. Nos 26 and 27 have early insurance plaques. Flush frame sash windows, glazing bars remain to nos 28 and 29. Three storey.

Nos.28 and 29 (Formerly Listed as: St Andrew's Street (West side) Nos.26 to 29 (Consecutive)).
Pair of houses. Circa 1840s. Smooth-plastered mass wall construction; slate roof, gabled at ends; axial stacks with brick shafts with corbelled cornices and crested pots. Cast-iron rainwater goods. Mirror plan pair, each one room wide, two rooms deep with half-basement kitchens and entrances facing the stair. Exterior: three storeys. Symmetrical 2:2-window front with some minor variations between the pair. Pilastered timber doorcases with dentil friezes and projecting cornices. Pilasters have incised Greek key decoration, doorcases with panelled reveals. No.29 has fielded panelled reveals and a 6-panel door (upper panels glazed) and a blind fanlight with spoke bars. No.28 has a door with sunk moulded panels and a blind overlight. Bootscrapers to both houses. All windows have moulded architraves; 16-pane sashes to the ground floor; 12-pane to the first floor and three over six-pane to the second floor. Interior: not inspected but may be of interest.
