Full description

Department of Environment, 1972, Tiverton, 45 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV52494.

Probably early 19th century, altered. Two storey, rendered and lined. Three first floor flush frame sash windows with glazing bars. Wood doorcase with fielded upper panels to panelled reveals, later door, added glazed porch, french casement, ground floor, right. Set back, large front garden.

House, circa1830s or earlier. Mass wall construction, stuccoed and blocked out; slate roof gabled at ends; end stacks with rendered shafts and old pots, some crested. Set back from St Peter Street behind a garden. Double-depth plan, two rooms wide with central through-passage containing the stair. Rooms heated from end stacks.
Exterior: two storeys. Symmetrical three-bay front with central doorway with a pilastered doorcase with sunk panels and fluted capitals and a cornice. four-panel door with overlight with margin panes. Glazed porch has lean-to roof and two-leaf outer doors. Outer ground-floor windows 12-pane 19th century hornless sashes, similar first floor centre window; outer first-floor windows are 16-pane 19th century hornless sashes.
Interior: 19th century stick baluster stair with ramped mahogany handrail; one two-panel door. The entrance passage has an unusual round-headed three-light Gothick doorway with stained glass half way down its length.
