Full description

Clock Tower, dated 1908. Ashlar. Triangular plan. In decorated style, with circular spire with wind vane, clock face below in ogee arch. Buttresses at angles, first stage with flying buttresses surmounted by carved figures. Bottom stage one deep pointed arch window and a doorway to each side.

Clock tower dated 1908. Built to designs of J Donkin, contractor; F Stenson (Clerk). Presented to Tiverton by Thomas Ford JP (Clerk). Grey limestone ashlar with Bath stone dressings. Free Gothic style. Triangular on plan with storage room on ground floor. Bottom stage has diagonal flying buttresses with octagonal pinnacles, crowned with carved figures of Hope, Faith and Peace. Each face on ground floor has recessed moulded arch with gable over. Two faces have two light traceried, decorated style windows with original stained glass. Third face has original half glazed oak door with original stained glass. Upper stages have Bath stone panels containing slip windows with original stained glass and shields carved respectively with 1908, E.R. and the borough arms. Clock faces on each side with foliage carved surrounds and ogee arches. Conical pinnacle surmounted by ball and weather vane.
