Summary

Earthwork remains of Medieval or later tin works situated on the southwest flank of Huntingdon Warren. The features were recorded during an archaeological field survey in 1996 and cover an area of 1.75 hectares The workings form two distinct groups; The lower, comprising several substantial channels, probably opencast workings, and relatively few tin pits. The upper comprising small tin pits and a single narrow gulley. Pits in the lower workings measured up to 9.5 metres in diameter and 2 metres deep with channels between 2.5 metres and 8 metres wide and 1.5 metres deep. The pits in the upper workings are relatively small, in the range 3 metres to 5 metres in diameter and a maximum of 1.5m deep.

(31/01/1996) Centred SX 65786644. Approximately 1.75ha of tin working remains lie on the SW flank of Huntingdon Warren above the streamworking debris flanking the River Avon (SX 66 NW 104). The workings form two distinct groups; the lower, centred at SX 65716631, consisting of several substantial channels, probably opencast workings, and relatively few tin pits, the upper, centred at SX 65866654, comprising small tin pits and a single narrow gulley. Pits in the lower workings measure up to 9.5m in diameter and 2.0m deep with channels between 2.5m and 8.0m wide and 1.5m deep. The pits in the upper workings are relatively small, in the range 3.0m to 5.0m in diameter and a maximum of 1.5m deep.
