The 1997 excavation report gives an ngr sx54649189 for this enclosure but the location plan places it at the above ngr. Seven pits were excavated within the enclosure giving radiocarbon dates of 2140-1780 cal bc - late neolithic/early bronze age. Skeletal material was insufficient to support a funerary interpretation although a ritual purpose is possible for the pits (weddell + reed).

Kerr, J. B., 1987, A30 Okehampton bypass (Report - Assessment). SDV263825.

(1986) No grid reference given. Excavated by the Central Excavation Unit. Formed by a low, well-defined rubble bank, eroded in places by modern activity, including a World War II lay-by which left several gravel dumps. Within the enclosure were found a few small pits with a charcoally fill capped with packed rubble; one contained a deposit of burnt bone, possibly a cremation. These features parallel pits found under cairns in south-west and south Wales, and interpreted as Bronze Age funerary sites.

English Heritage, 2013, Radiocarbon Dates from Samples Funded by English Heritage Between 1988 and 1993, 1 (Report - Scientific). SDV351472.

The suspected prehistoric enclosure, located at SX54649189, measured 11–12m by 21m, and was enclosed by a low rubble bank. Seven small pits or postholes were excavated within the enclosure, but no relationship between them and the enclosure was identified. The pits contained similar dark, charcoal-rich fills which produced radiocarbon dates (GU-5193–6) of Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age, and may have had a ritual purpose.
