Summary
A disturbed ground surface probably indicative of mining activity is visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, south of Hemerdon Ball. The earthworks are obscured from view by dense tree cover.

A disturbed ground surface consisting of numerous small mounds and hollows is visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards extending over an area of almost 1ha, centred on circa SX57045792.
The earthworks are interpreted as probably indicative of mining activity of medieval to post-medieval date, including prospecting pits and associated spoil mounds. The shaft recorded by the above authority was not confidently identified.
The earthworks are increasingly hidden from view by vegetation from the 1960s onwards and on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2002 are completely obscured from view. However, the extent of the disturbance remains identifiable from digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017.
