Full description

At SX 55766710 on a west slope at 276 metres ordnance datum within a modern field are the remains of Deals farmstead.
Towards Smallacombe Wood in the west and extending into the largest field to the south are the remains of small sub-rectangular fields probably associated with the steading. They are defined by earth and stone lynchets and banks averaging 3.0 metres wide and 0.5 metres high with the largest field being some 60 metres by 40 metres. Many have been reduced to clearance mounds with only short lengths of bank remaining.
Their continuance beneath modern field walls suggests a pre-enclosure origin, possibly Medieval, for the fields and the building which though not a longhouse, may be an ancillary structure.
Building surveyed at 1:2500.
