(23/03/1998) Centred at SX54766260. Two large plots of ridge and furrow cultivation lie in the angle formed by two roads at the foot of a west-facing hillslope, The ridges are up to 2.3m wide and 0.3m high; they are covered by closely cropped turf and around the fringes mature gorse bushes.

Linear and parallel banks spaced circa 4 to 7m apart, are visible as subtle earthworks extending over circa 2.2ha of the west-facing slopes of Shaugh Moor, north-west of Beatland Cross, including the plot annotated on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map as ‘Bowling Green’.
The parallel banks are enclosed by the boundaries of extensive field system of probable medieval or post-medieval date that extends eastwards onto Shaugh Moor and are interpreted as ridge and furrow, evidence of cultivation or agricultural improvement of medieval to post-medieval date.
Sections of ridge and furrow remain visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013.
