(05/08/1988) The rectangular feature illustrated on the RCHME APP and described as a deserted building (1985) is in fact a barbed-wire fence surrounding the entry cutting to Gobbett Tunnel.
The tunnel, which carries a water pipe from Swincombe Reservoir to Venford Reservoir, is apparently an extension of an adit of Gobbett Tin Mine, cut in the early C19th originally (Hemery, 1983).
