HER Number: | MDV26111 |
---|
Name: | Probable pillow mound west of Dunnabridge Plantation |
---|
Summary
Turf-covered earthen mound is 12m long, 3.7m to 3.9m wide and it has a maximum height of 0.6m. It has squarish ends, its top is superficially disturbed and it is surrounded by a heavily silted ditch. There is no trace of surface stone in the mound. Probable pillow mound, however uncharacteristically situated on a level floodplain rather than a slope and surface water accumulates here. The silted ditch immediately to the north (MDV26110) of the mound may have provided the necessary drainage as well as acting as a barrier for the rabbits along with the adjacent Cherry Brook and West Dart River.

(21/01/1988) SX 63087389. This turf-covered earthen mound is 12m long, 3.7m to 3.9m wide and it has a maximum height of 0.6m. It has squarish ends, its top is superficially disturbed and it is surrounded by a heavily silted ditch. There is no trace of surface stone in the mound.
It is most probably a pillow mound, however it is uncharacteristically situated on a level floodplain rather than a slope (c/f SX 67 SW 12, 7 & 8) and here surface water easily accumulates. The silted ditch immediately to the north of the mound may have provided the necessary drainage as well as acting as a barrier for the rabbits along with the adjacent Cherry Brook and West Dart River.
