Summary

Two prehistoric hut circles identified on the west side of Crownhill Down. The hut circles are not identifiable on aerial photographs or lidar derived images.

Hut circles on lower slopes of Crownhill Down. A good hut circle circa 10 metres in diameter with an entrance on south lies in undergrowth on east side of road. A short length of bank appears to run east from this hut circle and another possible hut lies to the northeast.

A clump of vegetation might represent the location of a hut circle.

The hut circles recorded by the above authorities were not confidently identifiable on the aerial photographs or images derived from lidar data captured by the survey; a clump of vegetation visible on aerial photographs of 1946 at SX56155997 might represent the location of a hut circle but has not been transcribed. Any evidence of the hut circles might have now been destroyed by the expansion of open cast mining on Crownhill Down.
