HER Number:MDV27079
Name:Field system on a west-facing slope of Little Mis Tor, Dartmoor Forest

Summary

At least six Medieval fields together with a funnel shaped earthwork survive in the area immediately south of the deserted Medieval settlement. The fields are rectangular in shape and those to the south have been truncated by a streamwork. The funnel shaped earthwork centred SX 55655585 appears to have been designed to guide animals from the open moor through a constricting passage to the river.

(16/11/1994) Medieval field system situated on a west-facing slope of Little Mis Tor. At least 6 fields together with a funnel shaped earthwork survive in the area immediately south of the deserted Medieval settlement.
The fields are rectangular in shape and those to the south have been truncated by a streamwork. The funnel shaped earthwork is centred on SX 55655585 and appears to have been designed to guide animals from the open moor through a constricting passage to the river.
The field system had probably been abandoned before several pillow mounds were built within the fields.
