HER Number:MDV27232
Name:Probable pound on hill east of Smith Hill Farm

Summary

A large sub-circular enclosure at SX 63597534 is probably the 'hut' noted by the RCHME App (1985). It lies at the foot of a shallow dry valley and is partially levelled into the slope measuring 16m by 14m overall it has ragged turf-covered earth and stone walling about 2.8m wide and a maximum 0.5m high; it has been mutilated and disturbed perhaps by the leat cutters. Its size and situation suggest that it is probably not a hut, however, it may be an animal pound and is almost certainly of Prehistoric origin.
