HER Number:MDV27233
Name:Possible field system east of Smith Hill Farm

Summary

A field system of about 3 hectares in area, was recorded from aerial images in 1985 project as a group of three or four contiguous field plots and linear walls. It lies on a fairly steep south-facing slope and is almost completely buried under a layer of peat and moorland turf. It is bisected by the Brimpts Mine Leat. All that can be identified on the ground during 1989 field visit was a few linear parch marks and a number of isolated earthfast boulders which indicate the line of the buried dwelling.

(28/08/1989) Centred SX 63677536. A field system of about 3 hectares in area, is visible on APs (1985) as a group of three or four contiguous field plots and linear walls. It lies on a fairly steep S facing slope and is almost completely buried under a layer of peat and moorland turf. It is bisected by the Brimpts Mine Leat (SX 67 SE 134).
All that can be identified on the ground are a few linear parch marks and a number of isolated earthfast boulders which indicate the line of the buried dwelling.
A large sub-circular enclosure at SX 63597534 is probably the 'hut' noted by the RCHME APP (MDV27232).
