Summary

The remains of a turf and stone bank measuring 1.2 by 0.6 metres. Its origin and function are unclear though it seems most likely to be associated with the military activity in the immediate area. This feature was previously recorded erroneously as a leat from 1985 aerial photograph project.

(15/07/1993) SX 59899044 to Sx 60139041. A turf and stone bank running east to west on the gentle north east facing slope of East Mill Tor. The bank, 1.2m wide and 0.6m high, follows an interrupted and slightly sinuous course. At SX 60019041 this feature cuts a terraced platform, the remains of a possible target railway (SX 59 SE 30). Between this point and its western termination the bank is more robust, 2.2m wide and 0.8m high, and is flanked by a ditch, on average 1.4m wide and 0.3m deep, on its southern side.

[The linear features on the west, north and north-east flanks of East Mill Tor that are described as leats by the Royal Commission aerial photograph 1985 transcription are, in fact, the products of military activity. They comprise the possible remains of a target railway (SX59SE/22/1), three telephone cable trenches, an artillery target butt (SX59SE/22/2) and a short length of turf and stone bank (SX59SE/22/3)].
