Summary

The site of the 15th century St Michael's Chapel on Burgh Island. The 'Remains of' St Michael's Chapel are depicted on both the First Edition 25 inch Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s and the Second Edition 25 inch Ordnance Survey map of between 1904-06. A structure also appears visible within Plot 1094 on the 1843 Bigbury tithe map. The remains are extant on the Ordnance Survey 2015 MasterMap.

A building has been erected on the remains of the original chapel. Now unoccupied, it was used as a look out during the war (os).

Borough island, 49m above sea level. St. Michael's chapel existed in 1411, but there is now no trace of it (hoskins).
