Jenkins, H. L., 1902, Ancient Camp at the Mouth of the Avon, 21-2 (Article in Serial). SDV147927.

Pottery found by Jenkins.


Fox, A., 1954, Untitled Source, 277-8 (Article in Serial). SDV148066.

Re-examined by Fox. Included imported ribbed amphora sherds of 5th to 6th century date.


Fox, A., 1955, Twenty-Second Report on the Archaeology and Early History of Devon, 322, Fig 1 (Article in Serial). SDV148060.

One iron age sherd, similar to pottery of late 1st century BC/early 1st century AD from Milber Down (see PRN 8649), found amongst pottery at Bantham.


Fox, A., 1955, Untitled Source, 55-67 (Article in Serial). SDV148064.

Illustrated and described by Fox together with later finds from a midden site. These included imported amphora of 2 types, and cooking pot fragments of 5th and 6th centuries. Several sherds of medieval pottery have also been found on the site, dating from the 13th to the 15th century.

Thomas identifies the amphorae sherds as being of 'BII' and 'Bmisc' type.


Silvester, R. J., 1981, Untitled Source, 105-6 (Article in Serial). SDV148065.

20 sherds, of Roman and Post-Roman date recovered in 1978 excavations. Most were small, and may originally have been raw material for the manufacture of spindlewhorls. Sherds included Samian, 'BII' and 'BI' amphorae, and 'E' ware.
