Name:Ruined building north of Luckey Tor, Widecombe in the Moor

Summary

The scant remains of a building on a partly levelled site. It is orientated east to west and now measures 4.0m. by 3.7m. with the east end no longer visible. The walling is of rubble, 0.5m. wide and 0.2m. high. The date is assumed to be Medieval, although the purpose is uncertain. Part of a yard boundary is visible on the south side.

Full description

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1980, SX67SE126 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV285883.

(03/06/1980) At SX 68507224, on the steep slope above Lucky Tor at 235m. O.D., is the scant remains of a building on a partly unlevelled site. It is orientated east to west and now measures 4.0m. by 3.7m. with the east end no longer visible. The walling is of rubble, 0.5m. wide and 0.2m. high.
Part of a possible yard boundary is visible on the south side (see plan). The building may possibly be Medieval, but is purpose is obscure. Found during field investigation.
