Summary

Butterdon Hill cairn '10' (Butler) on the south-west slope of Butterdon Hill, consists of a mound of stones of 17 metres diameter by 1 metre high and is one of a series of similar large cairns along the ridge between Butterdon Hill and Weatherdon Hill.

(24/03/1950) Cairn on Butterdon Hill. Situated 155 metres south-east of the Ordnance Survey triangulation mark on the summit. Not quite circular, in fair condition although centre stones are not covered by undergrowth and appear to have been disturbed. Diameter 16.5 metres north-south by 15.0 metres east-west, height 1.0 metre.

This cairn, on the south-west slope of Butterdon Hill, consists of a mound of stones built upon a stone, earth and turf base, possibly with a berm and ditch. It is 15 metres in diameter and approximately 1.8 metres high and is one of a series of similar large cairns along the ridge between Butterdon Hill and Weatherdon Hill.

Site visited on 17th January 2021, surveyed and photographed. Platform cairn on south-east side of Butterdon Hill: low stony mound 17 metres diameter, 1 metre high, two hollows in mound suggesting stone extraction or excavation.
