Full description

FLETCHER, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV10257.

The 4 barrows at bickleigh brake were surveyed by eh at 1:1000 in december 2001. Barrow d, just to the sw of barrow a, is evident as a low turf-covered amorphous mound c.16m-24m across x 0.2m high with a depression in the top. It lies on the crest of the n-facing hill slope + is visible as a ditched soilmark on 1995 aph (fletcher).

Vis=est -/-/1999 (ancient monuments) one of 4 bowl barrows at bickleigh brake 540m sw of bickleigh, forming part of a linear round barrow cemetery.

The northernmost barrow is no longer visible, the mound having been largely removed. It is known that it was 40m in diam and that its quarry ditch, of unknown dimensions, remains intact (am).

Vis=29/3/1982 (grinsell + taylor) under pasture, almost levelled.

Vis=19/12/1952 (os) barrow 'd' has diameter of 30m. Grass covered, and probable excavation has left an encircling bank with an average width of 5m, external height 0.9m, internal height 0.6m. Slight traces of a ditch.
