(07/09/1994) The uncompleted boundary works of this 19th century enclosure contain approximately 150 ha of rough moorland pasture flanking the West Dart River and upper reaches of the Cherry Brook. The works mainly consist of turf banks up to 3.0m wide and 1.4m high flanked by quarry ditches with sections of drystone walls visible E of Rough Tor and SE of Crow Tor. The boundaries are obviously incomplete with a 600m gap immediately S of Rough Tor and 100m missing immediately SW of Lower White Tor.
It is likely that the enclosure was the subject of a grant by the Duchy of Cornwall in the early years of the 19th century possibly to a Mr Paterson (Hemery 1983, 423). Brown's House and its associated enclosures (SX 67 NW 88) were probably designed to form the core of this small estate.
