Rumleigh first appears as 'Romeley' in 1298 in the assize rolls. It is probably a compound of rum and leah, meaning 'wide clearing'.

Rumleigh house. Circa mid 18th with early and mid 19th century and early 20th century additions. Walls of original house are brick, slate hung at the side and part of the front.
