Name:Charcoal hearths in Hitchcombe Wood

Summary

A number of charcoal burning platforms were recorded in Hitchcombe Wood during walkover survey in 1985. These platforms lie at the northern edge of Hitchcombe Wood, south-west of the weir on the River Teign. In woodland, measures 4m in diameter. Not recorded in the 2017-18 survey.

(May 1985) One of a number of charcoal burning platforms recorded in Hitchcombe Wood during walkover survey in 1985. In woodland at SX 7688 8985. Measures 4m in diameter.
NB: two platforms are shown on the plan here, but either one has been missed out of the report, or the locations do not match correctly with the recorded measurements.
