A pit depicted on 19th and early 20th century maps as an old gravel pit is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards. The pit is irregularly shaped, measuring up to circa 90m across, with lobes of extraction arrayed around the spring head of Smallacombe Goyle. The earthwork was not transcribed as part of the survey.
