Field named as Down Gate Close (plot 1294) on the 1843 Tithe Map and Apportionment.

Site visit 20th July 1979. Circular mounds abutting east hedge of field, half way along substantial mass of stones. The mound probably marks the site of a prehistoric enclosure connected with a reave on Rowden Down. Lynchet visible in field no. 1288.
