Summary

According to local information there are the remains of a longhouse at Cator Gate. In the 1970s, a bank and ditch were noted. Appears to have been replaced by a fairly modern building.

Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The Tithe Map shows a long rectangular building here 1508 on the Widecombe Apportionment 'House Yard and C'. It is listed as part of Middle Cator.


Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The late 19th century historic map appears unchanged from the Tithe Map depiction.

The early 20th century historic map shows the building has changed. A much small structure is now shown which may be a replacement, although part of the older building could be incorporated as it sits on the same footprint.

According to local information there are the remains of a longhouse at Cator Gate. On inspection, a bank and ditch 50 to 60 yards long, can be seen.
