Earlscombe, farmhouse and outbuildings. Situated in the Lud Brook valley, a modern house replacing its predecessor which was destroyed by fire between 1905 and 1910. A part of the old house still stands, but is in disrepair and unoccupied; probably 18th century or earlier. An earlier house still may have stood to the east of the present building on higher ground. Clearance for modern cowhouses revealed stone and cobbled pavements and remains of buildings with at least one hearth. 1781 Land Tax Assessment lists Earlscombe with a tenement at £1.11. 1846 Tithe Map Apportionment lists Earlscombe with 'house, mill & c', 'poundhouse and linhay adjoining' and 'cot, garden, linhay & c' nearby. The estate was then the property of Heles Charity.
