Name:Pillow mound in Willings Walls Warren

Summary

One of a row of at least a dozen, arranged along the banks of Spanish Lake. Warren dates to the early 19th century and was worked with Hentor Warren until the 1930s. Large mound measuring 34 by 8 metres (1.3 metres high).

Full description

Pillow mound H at SX5813 6468. Measures 34 metres by 8 metres by 1.3 metres high. The mound is retained by a drystone revetment which is visible along the eastern side and survives elsewhere as a buried feature. The surrounding ditch is 2 metres wide and 0.5 metres deep. A gully which may represent an animal run and or drainage ditch leads north from the eastern end of the mound before turning to run parallel with pillow mound 'I'.

One of a series of pillow mounds. Long substantial sub-rectangular earthen mound at SX5810 6468, at the base of which foundation stones are visible and west and east ends. It is surrounded by a ditch 2 metres wide and 0.4 metres deep. Ditch continues westwards to Spanish Lake. At eastern end the ditch has been cut into bank.
