Name:Pillow mound in Willings Walls Warren

Summary

One of a row of at least a dozen, arranged along the banks of Spanish Lake. Warren dates to the early 19th century and was worked with Hentor Warren until the 1930s. Mound measures 13.7 metres by 4 metres by 0.7 metres high.

Mercer, R. J., 1987, An Archaeological Field Survey of the Upper Plym Valley, Dartmoor 1982-1986, Number X6, page 631 (Report - Survey). SDV165948.

One of a series of pillow mounds on the right bank of Spanish Lake. Sub-rectangular earthen mound, surrounded by a ditch, 1.0 metre wide and 0.30 metres deep. Many large stones of the foundation layer are visible around the sides. Dimensions 15 metres by 6 metres by 1.0 metre high.

Pillow mound C at SX58206446. Measures 13.7 metres by 4 metres by 0.7 metres high. The mound is retained by a drystone revetment which is visible on all 4 sides. The surrounding ditch survives as a 2 metre wide and 0.1 metre deep hollow along the south side of the mound and elsewhere as a buried feature.
