Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Uphill estate (Field no 1690), house and front depicted on the Tithe Map.

Visited 25/5/1979 House rendered outside, though granite is still visible at the back. Modern name Uphill House. According to the owner it was rebuilt as a Georgian house. Two fine, well-proportioned granite pillars support the porch.

House. Early C19; additions at rear. Solid roughcast walls, probably of stone. Slated roof. Chimneystack on each gable. Double depth plan, probably 4-square with stair in centre of rear section. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-window front; sashes with glazing-bars. 6-panelled door. Porch with 2 granite columns supporting wooden entablature.
