Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Building shown on 19th century Tithe Map as the most eastern of three buildings. The Apportionment for 'Sherwill Estate' lists Field Number 2268 as 'Houses & Yard'.

'Sherril' was mentioned as 'Schirewill' in 1303 and as 'Sherwell' by 1555.

Site visited on 25th June 1979. This house is now rendered. The owner cooks over an open fire in the traditional way.
