Socketed Axe. Believed to have been found near Sidmouth. 79mm long. 47 mm across blade. 36mm across socket. The looped axe is of hexagonal section, with a rib around the whole at the top of the loop, and a thick mouth moulding of irregular oval section. On each blade face, very faint and as a S. E. Welsh-S. W. English type of the latest phase of the Bronze Age. If this axe belongs to this group it is a light-weight and provincial-looking specimen. A very similar axe comes from Sydling St. Nicholas, Dorset, and a longer piece with more elaborate and pronounced mouldings comes from Milborne St. Andrew, Dorset. Sidmouth Museum Collections.
