Merryfield, a field which once belonged to Andrewshayes Farm, lying beside the old Taunton road could have derived its name from the Old English maere meaning boundary. This coincides with its position by the old Roman road that here forms parts of the parish boundary. In this case the boundary must be older than the field.
Exeter Archaeology, 2003-2004, East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Archaeological Survey, Site No. 965 (Archive - Survey). SDV351568.
