Summary

A field near old dalwood mill used to be called rack close. Le rackes is referred to in the court rolls of 1573-74. Cloth when finished was stretched on racks a process known as tucking. Rack close is situated in dalwood marsh once part of the lord of the manor's waste (chapman).
