Summary

Two entries in the manor court rolls of 1573-74 refer to two fulling mills recently erected in the village. The rolls state that one of these mills was on a piece of ground called pitlondes orchard. Two fields, once known as pitlands orchard lie between the village street and the corry above the island. Perhaps this mill stood here (chapman).
