Thrushelball is throshilball in 1529-32 in the early chancery proceedings. It means hill by the thrushel river. The word ball used to denote a rounded hill, is confined to somerset and devon. The earliest occurrence of the word ball in a devon placename is documented in 1429 (gover et al).
