Full description

Robinson, R., Ugborough (Worksheet). SDV160162.

The railway crosses a stream and gully coming down from Shute and Cheston. The older part of the bridge which is on the up-stream side was built in approximately 1848 for the "Brunel" single track broad gauge track. This is in stone with a fine arch, only slightly segmental, a key stone standing proud of the stone course at the head of the arch. The bridge was widened for the 1892 railway by a brick addition joined to the downstream side of the earlier bridge.
